so... it seems like you are saying "because people tend to feel uncomfortable with things they didn't build, it's justifiable to use poor tools just because they are simple enough to understand"?

That seems like a strange thing to justify. If you have to "trust" something then you should be validating it by testing it. You don't fix the issues you've brought up by reverting to archaic tools that allow you a false sense of control.
